With Mistrial Declared, Ligambi Could Go Free
Alleged mob boss Joseph Ligambi could go free after a federal judge declared a mistrial late Tuesday on the remaining charges against him.
Ligambi’s attorney is expected to petition the court to have him released as early as today, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
As we wrote yesterday, Ligambi was acquitted of five counts, while the jury remained deadlocked on the most serious charge, racketeering conspiracy, and three others. Judge Eduardo Robreno later declared a mistrial on the counts on which the jury remained deadlocked.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has not yet announced whether Ligambi or any of his co-defendants will be retried on the deadlocked counts.
